Exhibit Interpreter: Part- time /Casual (Weekday availability prefered)
Reports to: Manager of Visitor Programs
Position Summary:This is a front line position which personifies and represents Discovery Centre. The interpreter orients and assists visitors, plans and delivers live science demonstrations, programs, outreach and special events, opens and closes the Centre, and contributes to the care and maintenance of exhibits and facilities. The interpreter may also be cross trained to cover the front desk, gift shop and as birthday host. Liaising with other departments may also be required.
Discovery Centre’s mission is “to stimulate interest, enjoyment and understanding of science and technology through innovative, exciting, hands-on experiences for all Nova Scotians.” This position supports the delivery of that mission.
Work Skills and Abilities
- excellent communication skills
- a strong interest in science
- experience delivering presentations and/or leading activities and programs or be in the process of acquiring a degree or diploma in science, education, communications, theatre or another related field (equivalencies considered)
- a strong commitment to quality service and quality program delivery
- the ability to work independently and solve problems
- up to date training in First Aid/ CPR
Wage: $9.20/hr
